Our Responsible Investment Approach
At AQR, we are unwavering in our commitment to fulfilling our fiduciary obligations. Our approach to Responsible Investment is designed to help our clients achieve their investment objectives.
Responsible Asset Selection
AQR systematically incorporates ESG-related information in our standard security selection models to the extent that empirical evidence suggests their ability to enhance risk-adjusted returns.
Our ESG-related signals are treated no differently than any other potential source of investment insight: they are held to the same high evidentiary standards, underpinned by the same proprietary empirical research, and subject to the same rigorous implementation and oversight processes as non-ESG-related information.
We have incorporated governance-related alpha signals in our models since our founding in 1998 and have continued to identify additional ESG-related signals that are economically intuitive and empirically validated.
Responsible Ownership
AQR’s responsible ownership activities are grounded in transparency and include engagement and proxy voting in the best interests of clients.
Our focus on transparency is a natural extension of our systematic investment process which relies, in part, on the quality, completeness, and consistency of publicly available financial and non-financial reporting. Prioritizing measurable improvements in transparency can provide more robust signals across the range of portfolios we manage, reduce information asymmetry, and ultimately enhance market efficiency.
AQR has been a signatory to the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) since 2014.
